Nicola Garvey

Weaving and Textiles
2023-2024 Garvey won a bursary with CuratorSpace which meant that she could own table loom and weave from home, She continues to use the floor standing dobby looms at Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley.
She designed and wove an immense 23ft of cloth, named Thou Shall (not), which was inspired by writing 'lines' at school as a form of punishment whilst instilling the 'correct' behaviour. It was relentlessly warped, measured and woven in the cold month of January 2024.

Hand weaving on the Dobby looms
Garvey claims that loom weaving quietens her mind with the heavy clank of the catapulted shuttle and chit-chat filling the air.
There are options to be had, to excite and thrill.
Warp is sturdy, strong, holds, contains and offers protection, strength and stability.
