Nicola Garvey
Nicola Garvey is studying a Masters degree in Fine Art with the University of the Arts London, (digital) She graduated in 2021 from Leeds Arts University with a first class BA (Hons) Fine Art.
Her work incorporates the human condition and everyday life, its metaphors and anthropomorphic correlations through a playful lens, albeit mischievous and uncanny. It is bright, bold and quirky.
She works intuitively and is drawn to the beauty in the unlikely and where there is dichotomy between comfort and discord; the everyday; overlooked; and underrated.
Her practice explores the connection between craft, concept, contemporary sculpture and painting, highlighting expressive ways of communicating.
She is materially and process curious. Her studio practice is kept alive by seeking opportunities, open calls and exhibitions.
Her recent work incorporates personified 'Beings' influenced by children's 1970's TV/films and Edward Lear's children's poetry.
